Terms of Service

You own the comics you make. We do not publish, sell or license your work without you choosing to, and we do not train models on it. You pay in credits for art we generate. We take no share of anything you go on to do with your comics. Do not use Komiks to make illegal material or to impersonate real people.

The rest of this page says the same things more carefully. If something here contradicts the paragraph above, the paragraph above is what we mean.

You need an account to make anything. You are responsible for what happens under it, and for keeping your sign-in details to yourself. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live — if you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian to agree to these terms for you.

We can suspend an account that is being used to break these terms, to defraud the payment system, or to abuse the generation pipeline in a way that threatens the service for everyone else. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why first.

Everything you create with Komiks — scripts, characters, panels, pages, covers and finished issues — belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it.

We need a narrow licence to run the product: permission to store your work, process it through the generation pipeline, and display it back to you. If you publish an issue, that licence extends to showing it publicly in the reader. It ends when you delete the work or your account.

We do not use your comics, characters or prompts to train generative models, and we do not sell them to anyone who does.

Art is produced by third-party models. Two things follow from that, and you should know both before you build a business on it.

Output is not guaranteed to be unique. A model can produce something similar for two different people. We cannot promise that what you generate is free of resemblance to existing work, and you are responsible for checking anything you intend to publish commercially.

The legal status of copyright in AI-generated images is unsettled and differs by country. In several places, purely machine-generated images may not attract copyright at all. We are telling you this rather than implying otherwise; if it matters to your plans, take your own advice.

No sexual content involving minors, ever, in any style — this is the one rule with no context that excuses it. Beyond that: nothing that sexualises real people without consent, nothing that impersonates a real person in a way meant to deceive, nothing that harasses or incites violence against people, and nothing that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark.

Do not attempt to defeat the safety systems of the underlying models, and do not resell raw access to the generation pipeline as if it were your own API.

Generation is metered in credits. Plan credits are granted each billing period and expire at the end of it. Top-up credits are bought outright and do not expire. Credits are a prepaid balance for using the service — they are not money, they have no cash value, and they cannot be transferred or redeemed for cash.

If a generation fails, the credits it took are returned automatically. If you are unhappy with a result that succeeded, that is not a failure and it is not automatically refunded — talk to us and we will be reasonable.

Subscriptions renew until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not refund the current period, and credits already granted stay yours until they expire. Prices can change, and we will tell you before a change affects a renewal.

Publishing an issue makes it and its pages publicly readable in the Komiks reader. That is all it does. We take no commission, no revenue share and no licence to sell it — if you go on to sell, print or licence your comic anywhere, that transaction has nothing to do with us and we are owed nothing from it.

You are the publisher of what you publish. That means you are responsible for having the rights to it, and for it complying with the law where your readers are. We can remove published work that breaks these terms or that we are legally required to remove.

Komiks depends on third-party model providers. They have outages, rate limits and deprecations, and when they do, generation slows or stops. We run the service with reasonable care but do not promise uninterrupted availability, and we do not guarantee that a specific model will remain available.

To the extent the law allows, Komiks is provided as-is, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. We are not liable for lost profits, lost data or indirect losses. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Komiks after that means you accept the new version.
