Dialogue, captions and sound effects

Panels are lettered as they are drawn. What appears comes from the page script:

• ·Dialogue becomes speech balloons, attributed to the character speaking.
• ·A caption becomes a caption box — narration, a time stamp, a location.
• ·A sound effect is drawn into the art itself.

If a panel has more to say than will fit legibly, the script is what to change: rescript the page, or redraw the panel with a note asking for less text.

Because lettering is drawn rather than overlaid, changing the words means redrawing the panel.
